Information Regarding the Title One Program

The Goal of the Title One program is to provide instructional services and activities to meet the needs of children at risk of failing the state's challenging performance standards. Title One instructors will provide your child with extra educational assistance beyond the regular classroom.

Title One programs generally offer:

• Smaller classes or special instructional spaces.
• Additional teachers and/or aides.
• Opportunities for professional development for school staff.
• Extra time for teaching Title 1 students the skills they need.
• A variety of supplementary teaching methods.
• An individualized program for students.
• Additional teaching materials which supplement students' regular instruction.

Funding:
The Federal Government provides funding to each state. State educational agencies send this money to school districts based on the number of low income students attending that school (as measured by free and reduced lunch participants).

The Process:

• Identify students at the school who need the most educational assistance based on a variety of assessment criteria.
• Set goals for improving the skills of selected students.
• Develop a program to support the student as they work toward those goals.
• Measure student progress periodically to determine the success of the Title 1 program for each student served.

Parental Involvement:
Research shows that student success in school is directly related to how much their parents get involved in their education. Therefore, parents are encouraged to take an active part in the education of their child and in their participation in the Title 1 program. Some ways parents can become more involved are:

• Serve as a role model, show your child that you support their education and school.
• Communicate with teachers and school to be aware of your child's educational progress.
• Inform your child's teacher about events that may affect your child's performance/experience at school.
• Attend school activities and/or volunteer at the school.
• Join local and national school/parent organizations.
• Attend parent-teacher conferences.
